The Sedona Marathon Welcomes Wharton Health Experience

The Sedona Marathon is pleased to announce that the renowned Wharton Health Experience is continuing as official sponsors of the event in a long term relationship. Father and son team, Jim and Phil Wharton, are the authors of the Wharton Health Books, have regular columns in Runner’s World and USA Today and have personally trained over 500 Olympic medalists.

They gave a free training clinic and talk to kick off the 3rd Annual Sedona Marathon in Feb. 2008 at the Goldenstein Gallery in uptown Sedona. Also attending were elite athletes from the Mile High Training Center in Flagstaff, AZ many who are slated to compete in Beijing in the summer Olympics.

For the 2009 Sedona Marathon Event there will be more Wharton Health Experience clinics at Goldenstein Gallery and more features to learn from thanks to Wharton Performance.

And as an initiative to encourage northern Arizona to get healthy, continuing the success of the 2006 Biggest Loser campaign – the Sedona Marathon says “Off the Couch!” and make it a family affair!  So why wait to start and ongoing till the 2009 race time? Come out to the Sedona Red Rock High School track and walk, run.

From now until race day, we are reminding locals to get together to get healthy. Start a family and friends tradition and run or walk around the Red Rock High School track Monday nights at 5:30pm till race day.

The Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser campaign morphed last year to give even more participant opportunities and continues in this flexibility. Not only can single individuals participate but teams can be in two’s, three’s four’s or five’s – whatever your fancy and camaraderie threshold for commitment. The bigger the team the better chance to win! But all teams will be averaged to one biggest loser number so the largest loss of inches from now till race time is the winner!

Participants can find out more information later in 2008 on how to get “measured-in” for competition. Then at race day after the runs – participants are again “measured-up” to determine the Biggest Loser in the single and team categories.
