When is the application
deadline?
Applications for The Sedona Marathon and Half Marathon 2009 will be
accepted online until February 4th, 2009 at 11:59pm Pacific Time, by snailmail postmarked Feb.1, walk-in by appt. to Pilates by Richelle Studio (928-300-9706) or Thunder Mountain Wellness (928-600-2609) by Feb. 5 OR until a maximum field size
has been reached (whichever comes first). The 5k registration
portion of the Sedona Marathon can be open up until race day
or until the field is full. When the field is full for all portions
of the Sedona Marathon, the website and registration on line
will have notices of field closure.

Do you accept credit
cards?
If you register on-line, credit cards will be accepted through
active.com. However, if you register by mail or fax, we are able
to accept payment only by check or cashiers' check/moneyorder.

Where is packet pick-up (bib, etc.) and can I register
on race day?
There is race day registration for the 5K if room is available for those who show up to register before 6:45AM (day-of registration opens at 5:30am). There is
no race day marathon or half marathon registration or packet pick up. General packet pick-up is scheduled all day Friday Feb. 6 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. To claim your bib, timing chip, T-shirt, and goodie bag you must bring your Sedona Marathon confirmation (cancelled check copies, front and back, are also acceptable) and proper I.D. to the Bib pick-up area. The pre-race registration confirmation and packet pick-up area is located at the Patio Del Norte upper balcony and Sala De Los Milagros room of Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village at 336 Highway 179 · Sedona AZ. Again pick-up times are on Friday Feb. 8 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Each entrant is responsible for picking up his or her race packet. No one will be allowed to pick up a race number (bib) for a friend or family member. Late pick-up is pre-authorized on a case by case basis only for a limited time by email ONLY writing to . Contact tanya@sedonamarathon.com for authorization for late packet pick-up which can occur at the Red Rock High School field starting at 5:30 am and ending at 6:45am Saturday morning,
February 7, 2009, by pre-arrangement only in special cases.
The last day for online marathon registration is February 4th, 2009 at
11:59pm Pacific Time, unless the field can handle more registrations.

What are the age
restrictions?
The minimum age for participation in the half marathon is 12
years old and 14 years old for the full marathon. All registrants
under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian's signature
of approval on the entry form. The Sedona Marathon directors
or staff reserve the right to require proof of age. 5K participants
must be at least 5 years of age. Any age 5 and older can participate
in the 5k portion of The Sedona Marathon as long as the participant
is in good health, has paid a registration fee and shows up even as late as race
morning, as long as the field is open.

I sent in my application
today. Will I receive notification of acceptance?
Once your application has been verified, you will receive a confirmation
email directly from active.com. If you have registered online it should come immediately. Snail mail registration confirmations will come via active.com within approximately one month. Your cancelled check or credit card statement
will also be confirmation until you receive an official race confirmation emailed through active.com.
Keep the email confirmation and bring it with you to check-in/registration
for the race. Take advantage of early registration via snail mail
before December 31, 2008, and you will receive active.com confirmation sooner than those who register after early registrations are closed.

I do not
have a bib number. Can I run the race as an unofficial entrant?
No. Race amenities provided along the course, including medical
assistance, fluid replenishment stations and traffic safety concerns
are based on the exact number of officially-entered competitors.
Any addition to this number by way of unofficial participants,
will adversely affect the The Sedona Marathon's ability to ensure
the safety and welfare of everyone. Invite friends and family
who want to race with you to register.

What will the weather
be like on race-day?
Referring to the historical temperatures for Sedona in February
promises perfect weather for racers. The average high is 60°F
and the average low is 32°F. The average precipitation throughout
the month of February is a scant 1.5 inches. Nevertheless - it
is winter, so racers should be prepared there could be snow,
sleet or rain! The good news about Sedona is that even with winter
precipitation, the sun dries out the asphalt streets quickly.
Not so quickly on the dirt roads however, so racers should be
aware of the clay mud that may be their bane out in the forest.The 5K and half marathon are on pavement, the full marathon includes dirt surfaces.

Is The Sedona Marathon
walker friendly?
The Sedona Marathon is open to all walkers -- with few restrictions
the most important being the ability to finish the selected length
course within the 6 hours the course is officially open and supported.
The most likely portions of the course for walkers to complete
are the 5K and Half Marathon.

Is there a clothing
check?
No. Racers are responsible for their personal items. The Sedona
Marathon is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Items
recovered on the course after the event will be donated to charity.

Will there be an early
start for slow runners?
No, all runners/participants will need to be lined up at the start at 8 a.m.

Will runners line-up
at the start according to their pace per mile?
If the field is large enough, signs at the Starting Line will indicate a number of pace
per mile times from Elite Runners at the front to walkers at
the rear. Participants are asked to assemble in the area that
is closest to their race and projected race time. Wlakers are asked to be towards the rear of their race contingent corral. With a smaller field there may simply be a different start corral for marathoners, half marathoners and 5K participants.

Will the course be closed
to traffic?
The course will share roadways with traffic, with barricades
and safety devices in place for the safety of racers. In limited
instances, the may be Sedona Police patrolling for signal and intersection
control. There will also be Arizona Rangers handling traffic control farther along the race course. Jeep tour companies in the region will also be monitoring for safety farther out on the course.

What locations are there
for the replacement fluids?
Refreshments will be provided at select intervals on the out
and back routing of the course. You will pass the same stations
on the way back as you used on the way out.

What locations are there
for the port-a-toilets?
Port-a-toilets are located at the start/finish line area, one
approximately at the half way mark and one at the farthest out
portion of the course with other locations scattered along the way according to permit from the responsible agencies. Racers can check maps at
Tlaquepaque packet pick-up and on race day at the Red Rock High School field for locations.

Might I see wildlife
during the race?
Absolutely a possibility, especially as you get out into the
forest areas. Keep an eye out for javelina, pronghorn antelope,
mule deer, elk, cottontails, jackrabbits, coyotes, raccoons,
skunks, geese, hawks, eagles, and know that from the bushes you
may be watched by mountain lion and bobcat.

Will there be a cutoff
time for the finish line?
There will be no course support, security nor water/aid stations
after 6 hours. It is not recommended to racers to continue the
course after this time. Slow runners might tour the course before
race day to determine their running pace in order to accomplish
the 6-hour cut-off.

What are the dropout
procedures?
If you know you cannot finish, notify a course volunteer (bicyclist,
horseback rider, aid station volunteer, med station volunteer,
etc). Give your name and bib number for notification to the finish
line and ask for a sweep vehicle to pick you up. If you know
you must drop out of the race and have someone to pick you up,
you must turn in your timing chip to recovery point for all chips,
otherwise you will be charged a fee for not returning your chip.

Where on-site are the
results posted at the end of the race? Are they
available online?
The race results are posted at the finish line and online information
will be posted within 24 hours following the race by CEP Timing.

Are there post-race
festivities?
Yes! All participants will gather back at the finish where finishers
receive a finisher's medal and awards, with plenty of liquids
and food to replenish the body systems. This area features live remote radio station broadcasts and
music, refreshments, food, kids inflatable play area and a chance
to relax in sight of beautiful Sedona red rocks. Your race bib
number is your ticket for you, family and friends into the festivities.

No, the race does not offer deferments or refunds.

No. Safety reasons prohibit the use

I am not
running and want to know some information about watching the
race?
The race begins at 8:00 AM at Red Rock High School in the Sedona City limits. There is plenty of room
for spectators at the start, which is quite near the finish line. Along
the street in the city on sidewalks there will be opportunity to stand and watch.
As the racers travel farther out into the forest and onto dirt
roads there will not be as many easy places to observe the action
and yet still get back for the finish. The forest has mandated that no spectators be allowed in areas of their jurisdiction.

Is there late
check-out available at the hotels?
Many hotels in Sedona will offer special rates for The Sedona
Marathon participants and spectators, but each has its own individual
policies on check-in / check-out times.

can I interview the winner of the race?
Yes. Members of the press should contact The Sedona Marathon
(800-775-7671 or media@sedonamarathon.com) directly to request credentials.
On race day visit the press location identified at the start/finish
to pick up the press pass and, if you like, be escorted to meet
the winners. You are also welcome to download photos and press
releases from the media page or from Media Coordinator and PR person Mindy Mendelsohn 928-203-9215. .

Does The Sedona Marathon
have any affiliations with charities?
Yes. The Sedona Marathon supports the Sedona-Red
Rock School District and Sedona Charter School
as its benefitting community charities. The Sedona Marathon also supports the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the nation's largest
lymphoma-focused voluntary health organization devoted
exclusively to funding lymphoma research and providing patients
and health-care professionals with critical information on the
disease.

Is The Sedona Marathon
certified so results can be submitted
for official purposes?
The Sedona Marathon is USATF certified
so racers can be confident their finishing times can be officially
accepted for other events. The Boston Marathon typically requests our race results with which we supply them for their purposes.
